Contemporary Artist and Interior Architect
One cannot create one’s own universe without first discovering the universe within.
Naz Kökbudak is a contemporary artist and interior architect whose work explores the invisible connection between the individual’s inner world and the cyclical order of the universe. At the heart of her practice, she reinterprets the traditional nazar form as the “Eye of the Universe.” In Kökbudak’s work, the nazar transcends its protective meaning and becomes the first portal between inner awareness and cosmic order.

ARTISTIC APPROACH
A Journey into
the Inner Universe
Kökbudak’s artistic journey began not by looking outward toward the universe, but by turning inward. During a period in which she became aware of recurring emotional and experiential cycles in her life, she recognised that the underlying story remained unchanged: people changed, but roles endured; the same emotions and similar experiences resurfaced in different forms.
As these repetitions were transferred onto the canvas, they became visible. The circular structure, repetition and powerful centre of the nazar form evolved into a visual expression of the cycles recurring within the human psyche. The creative process was no longer solely an act of making; it had also become a space of awareness. Seeing became the first step toward breaking free from the cycle.
The conceptual universe the artist calls “Inner Cosmos” emerged from this awareness. For Kökbudak, the inner world—like the universe itself—is shaped by cycles, centres, gravitational fields and transformations. True transformation begins when individuals recognise their recurring patterns, move beyond them and reach their full potential.
Each work reflects a uniquely personal journey of transformation. Even when the same cycles recur, the way each person recognises them, moves beyond them and creates their own universe remains entirely individual.
INNER COSMOS
From the Nazar
to the Cosmic Universe
The nazar is the first gateway in Kökbudak’s artistic universe. Inspired by cosmic imagery, this form marks the starting point of the artist’s journey from inner awareness toward universal order.
Following the Nazar Series, Kökbudak expanded her practice by abstracting celestial forms such as the Sun, Mars, Venus, asteroids and meteoric structures. In this way, a journey that began with personal awareness evolved into a holistic artistic universe extending into cosmology.
In these works, planets are not treated merely as celestial bodies. Each represents a distinct energy, stage of transformation and gravitational field within the human inner world. Through the forms of the outer universe, Kökbudak invites viewers to encounter their own inner cosmos.

COLOUR, TEXTURE AND LAYER
Material and
Visual Language
Working on wood and canvas, the artist brings together acrylic, resin, colour, texture and layered surfaces to create three-dimensional compositions with a profound sense of depth. Through optical effects and geometric arrangements, she invites viewers not simply to look at the work, but to experience the space it creates.
Deep shades of blue represent balance and inner tranquillity; purple symbolises intuition and awareness; and red embodies the energy and courage of new beginnings. Gold accents serve as visual expressions of abundance, light and transformative energy.
As light and viewing angles shift, the works reveal different layers. Kökbudak’s art therefore exists not merely as a surface to be seen, but as an experiential field that transforms in relation to the viewer, the space and time.

EDUCATION AND ARTISTIC PRACTICE
After graduating from Saint-Joseph French High School, Naz Kökbudak completed her degree in Interior Architecture at Yeditepe University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 2007. She began her professional career at international architecture firms, where she developed a disciplined approach to spatial thinking, scale, materials and design—elements that would later become integral to her artistic practice.
Combining her background in interior architecture with her artistic vision, Kökbudak establishes a strong relationship between artwork, viewer and space. Her works are conceived not simply as objects placed on a wall, but as structures capable of transforming the energy and identity of the spaces they inhabit. Her work has been presented in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs in Istanbul and on international platforms. Kökbudak continues to develop her artistic practice and projects on both national and international stages.
