The Cosmic Cycle of Transformation
The Cosmic Series consists of works in which Naz Kökbudak explores the bond between human inner transformation and the ever-changing nature of the universe.

Nothing in the universe is static. Asteroids strike the surfaces of planets; collisions create new marks, craters and different surfaces. Through heating, fragmentation and the cooling that follows, matter takes shape anew. As planets move along their orbits, surfaces, textures and cosmic structures are in a constant state of formation and transformation.
Kökbudak draws a parallel between this cosmic movement and the transformation in human life. People, too, go through encounters, ruptures and change throughout their lives. Every experience leaves a mark; at times it alters the existing order and carries a person into a new form.
For the artist, the transformation in the universe and the inner transformation of a person are not independent of each other. Although one takes place on a cosmic scale and the other in the human inner world, both carry change, renewal and continuity.
In My Mars, My Water Planet, My Sun, Asteroid and her other cosmic works, rather than depicting planets literally, Kökbudak reinterprets their surfaces, collisions, orbits and cosmic textures through abstraction.
The Cosmic Series visualises the point where the transformation within a person’s inner universe meets the infinite transformation of the universe.
